Loving Yourself: A Beginners Guide

(Disclaimer: I am not a mental health professional nor do I ever claim to be. I just like teaching people about self-love and giving advice. If you are experiencing mental health struggles and it is affecting your day to day life, please seek some professional help. Remember there is nothing shameful about asking for help. You’ve got this beautiful one!)

In a society that teaches us to constantly see what’s wrong with our bodies and shows us what we “need to change”, self-love doesn’t come naturally to most. Society shows us the “ideal beauty”, they teach us to think our features are flaws. We are constantly shown a standard of beauty that’s unattainable and quite often photoshopped. From a very young age we’re taught that we’re not good enough, be it from magazines, media, TV ads…the list goes on. We see all this at an age when we are usually quite easily influenced. It’s no wonder so many beautiful people spend their lives hating themselves and in a constant war with themselves.

I’m here to tell you don’t have to live like that, you can learn to love your uniqueness. You don’t have to spend a life at war with yourself. Happiness is in your reach, love is in your reach, acceptance is in your reach. I want you to know that you’re not supposed to live your life hating yourself. That is not how it’s meant to be. You have this life, happiness should always be the main goal.
